About The Advanced Driving Course.
The Advanced Driving course is for anyone who wants to improve behind the wheel. Just passed your test? This course will help sharpen your technique. Been driving for years? Take your road awareness and knowledge to the next level.
The course is built around the police system of car control - widely recognised as the gold standard in advanced driving.  You will learn the principles to stay safe, smooth, and in control. You’ll discover how to plan, stay calm under pressure, and respond confidently to the unexpected - developing the key skills of defensive driving through practice and feedback.
You will work with one of our volunteer qualified National Observers who will help you spot habits, fine-tune your awareness, and improve your on-road decision-making. And because you’ll drive your own car, learning takes place in a comfortable setting.

When you join the Cardiff group as an Associate member you will be assigned to one of our IMI National Observer who will support you during your Advanced Driving Course.  Our Observer will contact you to arrange a date and time to meet up with you to start  your Observe runs.

All our Observers are dedicated to road safety and their primary aim is to prepare our Associates for the Advanced Driving Test.

IPSGA Framework
The purpose of IPSGA is to promote safety and prevent collisions by encouraging drivers to adopt a systematic approach to any hazard. In this case, a hazard is ‘anything which contains an element of actual or potential danger’.  Click onto each heading below to give an explanation of each step

Continuously gather and process what's happening around you while clearly communicating your intentions to other road users.

Place your vehicle for maximum safety, optimal vision, and stability.

Choose the right speed for each situation. You'll master the limit point technique for bends and always maintain the safe stopping distance rule.

Select the gear that gives you optimal performance for the road ahead.

Use your vehicle's performance to make safe, efficient progress. This includes both maintaining speed through hazards and accelerating smoothly when it's safe to proceed.
